| Hello Parents, At this point in the quarter, I am sure you are already feeling the pressure of the college application process just as much as your children. I hope the Parent-Senior Night with Mr. Williams was informative and helpful in managing the stress applying for college can add to a household. In our senior writing class, we have taken the time to have follow-up question & answer sessions after students receive information from the counselor. We have discussed the process for asking teachers for letters of recommendation, how to find college information on line, and how to begin selecting schools if they are still not sure where to start. On Sunday, September 13th, students will have the opportunity to log into a college-counseling program call Naviance. This is a comprehensive data base system of colleges and universities all over the world. This program helps them in selecting career possibilities based on personality profiles. It can also help them narrow their searches based on majors, school rankings, entrance requirements, location and so on. It will be a tool in which the counselor can learn about the students' interests and decision making process for selecting a school. Once students input their data, and the counselor has time to review the information, then students should begin setting up appointments with Mr. Williams to move the process along. In the mean time in class, we will do a brief grammar review, create college resumes and by the beginning of October we will begin our first college personal statement. We will complete two college statements before the winter holiday. If students need to work ahead of our class time line, no problem! I will work out a way to give them credit so they do not have to repeat assignments for the sake of class; I want this work to be as relevant for them as possible. With kind regards, Mrs. Greer Mrs. Greer tgreer@acsamman.edu.jo |
